New work by Strijdom van der Merwe

An Art work commissioned by the Zeitz Foundation ( Puma International ) for the Segera Lodge, Kenya

The work is inspired by the geological phenomenon known as sliding or moving stones where rocks move in long tracks along a smooth valley floor without human or animal intervention. Africa is a continent of migration: the migration of animals and as the cradle of human kind the migration of humans to other continents. These 8 stone were placed randomly in the landscape with long drag lines behind them. All the stones are engraved with lines and words related to migration were placed in these lines to reflect in the sunlight as the day progress.
