Site_Specific JOZI Land Art

5 & 6 APRIL 2014
sunrise to sunset - Starts at 6:00am · Ends at 7:00pm

Johannesburg Botanical Garden, Olifants Road, Emmarentia

Co-ordinated by Chris Reinders  |

Featured artist: Angus Taylor. Participating artists: Erynne Ewart-Phipps, Gordon Froud, Yannis Generalis, Angelique Koekemoer, Erica Lüttich, Moira McMurray, Sam Nhlengethwa, Chris Reinders, Anni Snyman, Sybrand Wiechers, Izanne Wiid, Colleen Winter.

Artists are working on the Emmarentia Dam side of the Garden in and around the Yellowwood (Podocarpus) grove above the Floreum. Visitors can access the area from the Olifants Road main entrance alongside the dam wall, or the parking area on Louw Geldenhuys Drive.

Site_Specific and the Johannesburg Botanical Garden are providing visitors with natural materials as an invitation for them to create their own land art works.

Land Art is a non-destructive and environmentally conscientious practice, and the work is rarely permanent – sometimes only lasting for a few seconds – long enough to observe and snap a photograph to capture the moment created.

Visitors are encouraged to do some internet research on Land Art and similar art movements, and to join us in the Garden to make some of their own creations. Please share your images and experiences on the facebook event page, or under the #JoziLandArt hashtag.
